Об экзамене IELTS

Speaking IELTS?»

PROGRESS English School.

IELTS Speaking

Speaking

  • fluency and coherence (беглость и последовательность)
  • lexical resource (лексический диапазон)
  • pronunciation (произношение)
  • grammatical range and accuracy

– I had first thought about this when I was in middle school, much before I first left Russia. I remember seeing Machu-Picchu in one of our books about nature and falling in love with it. Since then, I have always wanted to go to Peru and this old Inks city.

4. What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?

-The city that has really astonished me with its beautiful architecture and history was Paris. This is not only the capital of culture, economics and education, but also a place full of vivid art and romance.

5. How do you prefer to travel on long journeys?

-When it takes a lot of time to get to a destination, I definitely prefer to travel by a sleeping train. These are trains with comfortable beds where it’s possible to relax and recharge before reaching new places.

Basic Vocabulary.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

1. Do you have any hobbies?

Yeah, of course I do! In my spare time, I absolutely love playing tennis. I can’t get enough of it. I took it up for more than 5 years and nowadays I play every weekend with my father. I first began playing so as to get fit but I’ve found it’s also a great way to unwind.

2. Are there any hobbies you would like to have in the future?

Certainly, I’ve always been interested in trying new things, but unfortunately, there’s only twenty four hours in a day!

In particular, I’d love to learn how to play piano because I think it has a very soothing sound. If I had more time, I would definitely take lessons.

3. What are some advantages of having hobbies?

That’s a good question. I suppose, hobbies provide numerous benefits such as the opportunity to meet new people or improve one’s health.

Personally, leisure activities help me to relax. These days, I am very busy and, to be honest, because of study and work, life can sometimes be pretty hectic. Therefore, it is essential that I do something to blow off steam.

IELTS Speaking Part 1

Нельзя отвечать односложно, даже на вопрос What’s your name? My name’s Ivan.

Basic Vocabulary.

7. Используйте linking words.

also

as well as

another reason is

at present

nowadays

these days

in the past

then

when I was young

for example

for instance

such as

on the other hand

while

although

— Passive voice

— Present Continuous

— Simple Past, Present Perfect, Present Perfect Continuous

В первой части я не рекомендую долго задумываться над ответом и заполнять паузу фразой типа «Well? that’s an interesting question». Ограничьтесь «Well, actually…»

IELTS Speaking Part 2 — Long turn

IELTS Speaking Part 2

  • first of all…
  • secondly…
  • also…
  • finally…

I’m going to tell you about…

I’d like to talk about…

I’ve decided to talk about…

— That’s why I feel that…

— Finally, when I look back at my decision now…

— I’m glad I made the decision I did.

Answer:

I was recently blown away by a piece of artwork I saw at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. It was a large, abstract painting called «The Garden» by artist Mark Rothko. What struck me about this piece was its color and movement — the painting featured soft blues, pinks, and purples that flowed seamlessly from one hue to another. The colors seemed to almost dance on the canvas and created a sense of calmness and serenity.

As I stood there looking at it I began to feel my own emotions swell with each brushstroke. It felt like I could get lost in this painting, with the pieces blurring together until all that remained was a sense of peace. I stayed in front of it for some time, just taking in the beauty and emotion that this piece had to offer.

Realizing I had been there for some time, I slowly walked away feeling content yet still wanting more from the painting. It had become a part of me that day and left an impression on my heart that will never be forgotten. I could not help but leave with a greater appreciation for art and what it can do to our emotions. Every time I look at «The Garden» now, I am reminded of my own emotions and the power art has over us all.

Answer:

I am a big fan of jazz music. I love the unique and improvised feel that comes with it, and its ability to bring people together in a joyful atmosphere. Jazz is one of those genres which has evolved over time and mixes several different types of musical styles such as blues, classical, and even some contemporary elements.

I think jazz plays an important role in people’s lives as it helps to lift their spirits when they are feeling down. Music also has the power to evoke certain emotions, memories, or feelings which can be very therapeutic for some people. It can also serve as an avenue for self-expression if someone has difficulty finding another outlet.

I think music is extremely important for human beings because it provides us with a way to express ourselves, entertain others, and bring joy into our lives. Jazz has been around for centuries and is still popular today because of its timeless quality. Its unique blend of different musical styles makes it a great option when looking to express yourself or create an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. No matter what type of jazz you listen to, chances are there is something in it that can relate to you in some way.

And of course, if you’re having difficulty finding another outlet of expression, music can always be a great place to start. Whether it’s making your own or listening to others, creating and enjoying music can help bring balance and peace into your life. So I always take some time out of my day and let the soothing sounds of jazz fill my soul with positivity.

Answer:

I remember one occasion when I gave a gift to my brother. It was his birthday, and I wanted to get him something special. I thought long and hard about what he would like, and in the end, I decided on a new video game that he had been wanting. He was so surprised and happy when he opened it! He thanked me profusely, and we spent the rest of the day playing it together. It was a great day.

The video game I chose as my gift was Madden NFL 18. It’s for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. As with past entries in the series, Madden NFL 18 introduces several new features to the franchise. Among these are a story-based long-term campaign mode called «Longshot», which follows fictional quarterback Devin Wade as he tries to make it into the NFL. There’s also an updated version of the «Ultimate Team» mode with personalization features and more challenges. One of the best things about this game is the level of realism. The animations and graphics are top-notch, and the player movements look quite realistic. Another great thing about Madden NFL 18 is the amount of control you have over players and teams. You can customize everything to your liking, which is awesome. I’m sure anyone else who’s a football fan would love it too!

I gave my brother the gift on his birthday, and he was really happy and excited when he opened it. He said that it was exactly what he wanted. He loves that sort of thing because he’s a big fan of the NFL. I hadn’t seen him for a couple of months because I’d been away at college. So it was nice to go home for his birthday with a surprise for him.

Do you think he’ll continue playing the game?

Yes, he definitely plans on continuing to play the game. It seems like a lot of fun, and he really enjoys it.

Describe a journey that you disliked

You should say:

— why you made the journey

— what happened during it

— what you disliked about it

And explain how you felt about the journey

Answer:

I once made a journey that I really didn’t like. The reason I had to make the journey was because my work required me to visit a client who lived in another city. I thought it would be an interesting experience, but it turned out to be quite unpleasant.

The journey itself was long and tiring. It took several hours of driving on winding roads before I reached my destination. Along the way, I got stuck in traffic multiple times which only added to the length of the already lengthy trip. All this combined with the fact that there weren’t many places to stop for breaks meant that by the time I arrived at my destination, I felt exhausted and overwhelmed.

What really made the journey terrible though were the roads. The roads were so bumpy, potholed and winding that it felt like I was driving on a rollercoaster. There were also no signs or markers to indicate where I was supposed to turn which made navigation difficult. Add in the fact that my GPS wasn’t working properly and it became an absolute nightmare.

When I arrived at my client’s house, I was frazzled and stressed out from the journey. My client did not seem too pleased with me either as he had been expecting me much earlier than when I eventually got there. All in all, it was a journey I disliked intensely — a terrible experience and one I wouldn’t wish upon anyone!

Talk about a skill you learned from an old person

You should say:

– who the person was

– what you learned

– whether it was easy or difficult

and explain how learning such a skill made you feel.

Answer:

I learned a lot of skills from my grandfather, who was a very patient and knowledgeable man. One of the skills I learned from him was how to audit a business.

This skill was very useful to me in my career as an accountant. It was not easy to learn, but it was very rewarding. Learning this skill made me feel confident and capable.

Auditing is examining a company’s financial records to ensure that they are accurate and compliant with regulations. It is an important aspect of accounting and auditing businesses.

There are many different types of audits, but the most common are financial audits, compliance audits, and operational audits. These audits ensure that a company’s financial statements are accurate and free from errors.

One of the most challenging things to learn was the different types of audits and their purposes. But, once I understood that it was much easier to complete my tasks.

Operational audits assess a company’s operations and procedures. This type of audit evaluates how well a company is run and identifies areas that need improvements. Compliance audits ensure that a company complies with all applicable laws and regulations. These audits can be performed by government agencies or by private organizations.

I felt very confident and capable after learning this skill. It made me feel like I could conquer anything. The fact that I learned it from my grandfather made me feel even more proud.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 topic: Eating habits.

1. Tell me about the types of food that people eat in your country.

2. How are the eating habits now in your country different from eating habits in the past?

3. How healthy is your country’s food?

4. Why do you think different cultures have different table manners?

5. How may eating habits change in the coming decades?

6. What aspect of a foreign tradition do you like about their eating habits? Why?

Q. 1. Tell me about the types of food that people eat in your country.

Answer: I guess that it is fair to say we all love to eat, but what we eat largely depends on where we live, and what kinds of foods are available there to consume. For example, where I live, our main foods are steam rice and curries- curries that are made with vegetables, meats and fishes by mixing them with varieties of spices in proper measures. We also eat a lot of “bread” in combination with curries or some sweets that we like.

Of course, the food, which I just mentioned above, are regular day foods for regular occasions. When there is a special occasion, we cook foods like “chicken biriyani” or “mutton biryani” by mixing a certain kind of long-grain rice, such as basmati with a great aromatic flavor, with meats of our choice while adding a mixture of freshly-ground spices in it in order to make the dish even more delicious. Then, there are of course fast foods which we also enjoy eating on a limited scale.

Q. 2. How are the eating habits now in your country different from eating habits in the past?

Answer: Traditionally, in the past, people in my country relied heavily on home-cooked food, such as steam rice, curry and bread along with local fruits and vegetables. But, in the last couple of decades, we have seen that some “not-so” traditional food items (of course, in the context of my country’s food habits) such as pasta, pizza, French fries, burgers and sandwiches, mostly cooked and served at restaurants and fast food places, have also made their ways into the menu of our regular foods. As a result, we are becoming more and more “reliant”, especially in the big cities, on fast food instead of home-cooked food which has ruled our appetite for hundreds of years. We are even ordering for “home delivery” which was almost impossible to imagine even a decade ago!

Q. 3. How healthy is your country’s food?

Answer: There are some people in the world who eat food “purely” because of their nutritional values while there are others who choose to eat their food primarily because of their “awesome taste” and then for their nutritional values secondarily. For better or worse, we fall into the category of “food lovers” . We eat foods primarily because of their “awesome taste”, but luckily the type of foods, which we choose to consume in our country, are not any less healthy.

In fact, the only reason, for which I would say that our food is not always as “healthy” as we would prefer it to be, is that people in my country, in general, like to eat a bit too many spices in their foods purely because of “additional taste and flavor”. But, other than that, I am pretty confident that food in my country is pretty healthy because we boil them and cook them properly.

Q. 4. Why do you think different cultures have different table manners?

Answer: People from different parts of the world with different cultures choose to eat different kinds of food, and therefore, it is only natural that their table manners would be different. For Example, the people in China, Japan and much of East Asia relies heavily on wooden or bamboo-made chopsticks to eat their food, especially rice. And they chose chopsticks because of Confucius who believed that sharp utensils like knives would remind eaters of the gruesome way the meat finally made its way into the bowl.

Chopsticks, on the other hand, had dull ends, thus sparing their users from images of the slaughterhouse. But, the very knives, which got rejected by the people in East Asia on the ground it would remind the “gruesome” image of the slaughterhouse, became the symbol of “aristocracy” at the dinner table in medieval Europe probably because they were and still are used to eating meats and fishes that are usually cut into rather “large pieces” instead of small ones.

In the same way, people in the Arab world, including Iran, and some parts of Africa like to eat by making themselves comfortable on the floors, while eating at homes, in order to uphold one of the many traditions of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon Him). This “sitting habit” is also practiced because people would feel that their stomach is getting full by eating much less than they would normally like to eat, which is actually in a way healthier than eating on a table.

Q. 5. How may eating habits change in the coming decades?

Answer: I firmly believe that with “globalization” at such a rapid pace, people will actually forget about the “idea” of eating traditional food as we all will start preparing and enjoying all kinds of food from different parts of the world. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see that each and every country in this world is organizing some kinds of international food festivals or international cooking competition in the coming decades in order to encourage their citizens to change their food habits so that they don’t have to rely on only one certain kind of food to “survive” when there is a “famine” or “drought”.

Besides, I also wouldn’t be surprised if most of the people in different parts of the world stop cooking at home completely because of making fast food available at a very affordable price. However, at the same time, I wouldn’t also be surprised if we see “obesity” becoming an epidemic problem or disease all over the world.

Q. 6. What aspect of a foreign tradition do you like about their eating habits? Why?

Answer: I like pretty much all the traditions with regards to eating habits of all countries and cultures as they all help me to understand and appreciate the “diversities” in our world in a better way. But one particular tradition, which I really like, is the habit of eating fishes by the Japanese people. In fact, fish is featured so much prominently on the Japanese food menu that the average Japanese person consumes more than 154 pounds annually — or about a half pound a day!

The Japanese are so “mad” about eating fish that they collectively consume 12% of the world’s fish while accounting for only 2% of the global population. I like this particular habit because the health benefits of eating fish are just too many to count, and I also happen to enjoy eating fish too much! Besides, who doesn’t know that fresh, cured, smoked, or salted fish, loaded with vitamin A and omega-3 fatty acids, help to protect against various types of cancer!

IELTS Speaking Part 3

I’m in favour of

I’m against the idea

I support the fact that

I don’t support the fact that

I see where you are coming from and I would also like to say

I completely agree with you

I will have to disagree with that I’m afraid because…

I couldn’t agree more

I feel the exact opposite way…

First (First of all) … Second (Also)

  2. Рассуждайте, говорите о возможных вариантах развития событий, используя такую фразу: …but I’m not sure why that is. Maybe it’s because…
  3. Используйте модальные глаголы (might / may / can / could / have to…)

— if you ask me…

— as far as I’m concerned

— in my opinion…

— it seems to me that…

— the way I see it

— it appears to me that…

— from my perspective,

— I firmly believe that…

I don’t really think that something like that would happen

It’s highly unlikely that

I really doubt that

The probabilities of something like that taking place in the future are very slim

It’s highly likely that this will happen…

It seems probably/likely

There are possibilities

There is a great likelihood that…

I’m absolutely sure that this will happen

There are two points…

There are four problems…

There are three ways…

— let me think about that for a second…

— that’s an interesting question.

— What can I say about that…

— What else can I say?

— let me see – can I think of an example?

— What other reasons could there be for this?

in summary

to summarize

So, to sum up…

generally speaking

all things considered

in the long run

given these points

after all

in fact

in conclusion

in brief

in essence

on balance

altogether

overall

ordinarily

usually

Alright it’s safe to say, that…
